7 things to do every morning
Wake yourself up in the morning with a pleasant alarm tone (perhaps a favourite song you love) and incorporate some of the habits below into your daily ritual, and you'll see that you have a nicer and more productive day.
1. Drink a glass of water as soon as possible after waking up
This will help you hydrate your body after a long night. At the same time, it will kick-start your digestive system. And as a bonus, you'll get glowing skin. If you add freshly squeezed lemon juice or a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to the water, your body will also get a much-needed dose of vitamin C.
2. Do not check your emails or phone immediately after waking up
Do you have your phone right next to you when you sleep and is it the first thing you pick up when you wake up? Then maybe you're in the same boat as me, but try to fight it. Because once you decide to resist the temptation to check your email and Facebook immediately after you wake up (and ideally for another hour), you'll find that your mind is clearer, you're more focused and you're simply happier.
3. Think of at least one thing you are grateful for
This will bring you a little bit of that positivity that can last you all day. And if you can think of three or more things, all the better.
4. Go outside and take a deep breath
Breathe fresh air into your lungs. Even if it's cold outside. It only takes 10 seconds, but it reminds you that you're alive and breathing.
5. Keep moving
Your body doesn't necessarily need an intense workout before breakfast, but a little stretching is a great way to get the blood moving and wake up the body. Simply do a few stretching exercises or put on your favorite song and dance to it like no one is watching.
6. Take time for a healthy breakfast
Rather than reaching for a box of cereal, focus on getting real food into your body. Eggs, cereal, smoothies - these are all options that won't take you long to prepare. Give it a try :-)
7. Say your affirmation
Look in the mirror and say something positive to yourself. A few ideas:
- I exude beauty, confidence and grace.
- Every cell in my body is alive and well.
- I feel great taking care of myself.
