Protect your skin with Acqualaï for all year
Although autumn is slowly knocking on the door, summer and high temperatures are not yet fully receding. TThat is why it is important to protect yourself from the sun's rays even now, at the end of summer. Which you should do throughout the year, because although the sun doesn't have as much power at certain times of the year, it still produces harmful ultraviolet rays. That's why we've added another new brand of natural sunscreen, Acqualaï, to our shop.
The story of the Acqualaï brand begins in 2016, when the young founder Giuditta Rossetti discovered that the biggest coral bleaching in our history so far had occurred and that some corals were irreversibly damaged.
Guiditta has had quite a successful career in digital communications with world-famous fashion brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Hermés. Over time, she moved into luxury cosmetics, which she found much more interesting than the fashion world. It was the dismal stigma surrounding coral reef bleaching that made Guiditta realise that the Italian natural cosmetics market lacked an alternative to conventional sunscreens, especially one that contained purely Italian natural ingredients.
"Acqualaï represents my origin and tells my story. My connection with the ocean goes back to my childhood years, when I was lucky enough to dive in tropical waters and admire coral reefs during family trips."
Another goal of Acqualaï, in addition to protecting coral reefs and the environment, is to promote the year-round use of SPF as part of daily beauty care. All ingredients are natural, locally sourced, vegan, sulfate-free, paraben-free and not tested on animals. Therefore it has an Italian soul that is recognizable in every detail, from the shades of the packaging inspired by the colors of our seas to the names of the products that recall our beloved islands.
What exactly does the name Acqualaï mean?
It is a compound of two words:
Acqua - a liquid that descends from the clouds like rain to form streams, lakes and seas, present in all forms of life.
Laï - a term inspired by the Hawaiian term "la'i" - used to describe the calmness of a tranquil sea and the peace of nature.
Protect your skin responsibly
Let's review why natural mineral sunscreens are better than conventional ones:
Oxybenzone, octinoxate and octocrylene (common active ingredients in most sunscreens on the market) alter the DNA of corals, causing them to become sterile and unable to reproduce. Fish and algae are also altered in their development and growth.
Acqualaï sunscreens, on the other hand, contain zinc oxide as the only active ingredient, the safest mineral filter on the market. Zinc oxide is an ideal solution that is not only safe for the environment but also for the skin. Mineral filters act on the surface of the skin without penetrating deeply, unlike chemical filters.
In a nutshell:
CHEMICAL FILTERS WORK BY ABSORBING UV RADIATION INTO THE SKIN.
MINERAL FILTERS ACT BY REFLECTING UV RADIATION.
What products do you find here?
Acqualaï offers great, spreadable sunscreens - Capri with SPF15 and Ischia with SPF30, which are ideal for year-round use, especially on the face, and can even be used as a foundation. There are also spray tanning body lotions with SPF30 and SPF50, or perhaps a mineral skin serum with SPF50. You can also use this as a foundation. You may have noticed that the sunscreens are named after the Italian islands of Ischia, Panarea, Ponza and Capri. Of course, there is also a regenerating after-sun protection milk. All in all, this is luxury cosmetic minimalism in action :-)
Don't forget to mention the beautiful turquoise blue colouring of the aluminium packaging, which is fully recyclable. Every Acqualaï product will remind you of the clear sea and summertime comfort just by looking at its packaging.
Acqualaï has an Italian soul that you'll recognise in every detail, from the shades of the packaging inspired by the colours of the Italian seas to the names of the products in the range that bring you back to your beloved Italian islands.
